When reading this summer, you may want to use this reading guide to help you organize your notes and remember important facts. The notes will be helpful when you study for the test or while completing your project. You may print the study guide or write down the information in a reading journal you create yourself.

1. Where and when does most of the action take place?
2. If setting or time changes are important to the action, tell how and why they are important.
II. Interpreting Character
1. Who are the main characters? List them.

4. Are any characters in conflict with others? What is the nature of the conflict?

III. Analyzing the Plot:

* What happened the last third of the book?
2. What event marks the climax of the story, the most exciting moment that could change the outcome of the story?
3. Summarize the ending of the book.
IV. Understanding the Theme:
1. What important idea about life or people does the novel reveal?
2. Is there a message that can apply to the reader? What is that message that can be learned? Explain it completely. Does the story have a moral? If so, what is it?
